Target Audience:

This course is offered free as part of Leeds Aiming High for Disabled Children's programme.  The course is for managers and practitioners in all sectors - education, early years, social services and health - who are working to develop a framework to ensure that all disabled children are included in services.

Course Aim:

The aim of the course is to enable participants develop a framework to ensure that children with complex health needs, children who require moving and handling and children with behaviour that challenges are safely included in services.

 

Course Outcomes:

  • Understand the balance between rights and risk
  • Develop knowledge of policies and processes that need to be in place to include all children
  • Identify the barriers and issues for these groups of children in accessing services
  • Consider what further action is required in their own practice or setting to include all children

About the trainers

Jeanne Carlin

Jeanne Carlin has worked as a freelance disability consultant since 2001. Her main areas of work are training, research, writing and consultancy work. Jeanne has a specific interest in the area of non-verbal communication and participation in decision making.

Jan Morrison

Jan Morrison has worked as a freelance disability consultant and trainer for the past 8 years. Her main areas of work are providing consultancy to voluntary agencies and local authorities, training and writing guidance. Prior to working freelance, Jan worked as a Principal Policy Officer for Disabled Children and managed short break services in Inner London areas.
